Final Draft Adopted
The Charter Commission adopted the final draft of the proposed Jefferson County Charter by a 14-0 vote on September 4, 2008. The final draft reflects a number of substantive changes from the Public Comment Draft of July 24, 2008, based on important comments received during the Commission's public meetings. The county's voters will choose to adopt the charter on November 4, 2008.
On September 25th, an updated version of the charter was delivered to the County Clerk. The changes in that version correct typographical errors and do not change the intent or workings of the proposed charter.

The Charter Commission will hold a final meeting to approve minutes from the September 4, 2008 meeting at 6633 Moss Hollow Rd, Barnhart, MO, on Sept. 18, 2008 at 5:30 p.m. A portion of each meeting is reserved for public comment.
Mission Statement
The following mission statement was approved at one of the Charter Commission's early meetings:
It is the goal of the Charter Commission to draft a charter that will be acceptable to the people of Jefferson County, and will permit the people to govern themselves rather than rely on officials not elected by Jefferson County citizens. The Charter Commission intends to collect as much input as possible from the public, the elected officials, and other interested groups and organizations.

Members
The Charter Commission consists of fourteen members, appointed by the Circuit Court of Jefferson County, seven of which are Democrats and seven of which are Republicans.
